恐怖の買い物 shopping@Kampala

きょうは首都カンパラの街の中心へ、先輩隊員（→彼女のおかげで今の私がある！感謝）と買い物に出かけました！！

街の中心にあるマーケットはザ・アフリカって感じで、すごく楽しいんですが、スリ多発地帯でもあり、恐怖の買い物です。１人では怖くて行けません。笑

Today, I went shopping with my best friend, who is one of the volunteers from Japan. The market we went was the most popular one in capitol, on the other hand it is infamous for snatching. I haven’t been used to walking that place and the crowd always makes me nervous. I feel so insecure that I could not go by myself.

ちなみにカバンはもちろん黒のビニル袋です。中身？　タオルと水だがや。笑

By the way, I brought the black plastic bag to carry water and towel as usual.

街はこんな感じ。いつ行っても人がごった返しています。

The market is always filled with people, which allow snatchers to steal something importants.

店はどこも小さくて商品がところ狭しと並んでおり（棚おろしとかするのかな？）、店員はびっくりするような狭いところに潜んでいて、「うわっ、アンタこんなとこにいたのね」ってなることがよくあります。

Storeowners run business in limited spaces, therefore, sometimes clerks appear from unexpected spaces. It often surprises me.

電気屋、服屋、かばん屋、布団屋、靴屋、携帯電話屋、布屋、、、私がウガンダに来て良いと思うのは、ちゃんと専門店として店が並んでいて、値段も品揃えもちょっとずつ違って個性があるところです。昔は日本も商店街があったのに、今じゃイオンのおかげで全国どこも同じ店。イオンがきちんと顧客ニーズをつかむ努力をしているからというのもあるんだろうが、買い物客としては、ウガンダのほうが商品選びが楽しいし、お店の人と値段交渉できて面白いっス。

What I think interesting about Uganda is that every store has its own color. Moreover, it is fun to have conversation and negotiation with the clerks. In Japan, the numbers of retailers are disappearing due to dominants of big shopping malls, such as AEON.  In addition, bargaining is almost impossible, so shopping itself is not communicative.

で、本日の戦利品。

Here is what I got, today.

チテンジといって、アフリカっぽい独特な柄がプリントされた布です。

一点モノも多いので、「気に入ったものがあったら迷わず買え」とのアドバイス通り、迷わず２種類買ってしまいました。ちなみにこのさかなクン的チテンジは4mで20,000シリング（約660円）ぐらいです。

This is called titenji, which is a cloth, original from Africa. I got 2 kinds of them. It is 20,000 UGX. Today, I’ve already asked a tailor to make a pair of pants for me. It is also 20,000UGX. The price is surprisingly cheap, however it is not such a big deal to give tailor to make some own clothes. My pants will be ready in 2 weeks!  Look forward to seeing it completed!

今日はなんとその足で仕立て屋さんに連れて行ってもらい、ズボンを作ってもらうように頼んでしまいました。２週間後完成で仕立て料金はこれまた20,000シリング（約660円）。

ウガンダでは服をオーダーメードすることは珍しい事じゃないんだそうです。

２週間後、どんなズボンが出来ているか、乞うご期待！

怖いけど買い物楽し！

おまけ：この日、マーケットでDo you have Spinach（ほうれんそう）?と聞いたら出て来たのが↓の葉もの。

まったくほうれん草の味はしませんでした。何者？
